Roll out of Brown Food Bins started 6th July 2010

As part of the new 2009 Food Waste Regulations & Waste Management Bye Laws, all waste contractors are compelled to provide a food waste service to customers in designated areas.
We started delivery of our specially designed Brown Food Caddy Bins to all our householders customers in the Longford Town area on Tuesday 6th July 2010. We expect to have all delivered by mid July 2010. All Commercial customers (who serve food) in the Longford Town Area will also receive a wheelie bin for food waste.
Clear instructions are provided, explaining how to use the bins correctly and when they should be presented. There is no charge for this service.
What can be put into the Brown Food Bin?
Meat, poultry, fish.
Shellfish & bones.
Egg & dairy products.
Plate scrapings & table scraps.
Fruit & vegetables.
Bread, dough, pasta & grains.
Coffee grounds, filters & tea bags.
Soiled kitchen towels.
What can NOT be put into the Brown Food Bin?
Glass.
Grass.
Metal.
Plastic.
Textiles.
Soil.
Ruber.
Nappies.
Rubble.
Any other non-food types of waste.
Advantages of using the Brown Food Bin:
Up to 40% of the average household waste bin is made up of organic waste so if used correctly this collection could lead to huge savings on your annual waste charges.
By using a Food Bin your food will be sent for composting instead of going to landfill.
It will reduce our dependence on landfill, our carbon footprint and contribute to recycling targets.
