We operate a door to door collection to all areas of County Longford and parts of Cavan, Leitrim and Meath and Westmeath. All customers are provided with a 240 litre bin for waste and a 240 litre bin for dry recyclables. Collections take place on alternate weeks so each customer receives 26 waste collections and 26 recycling collection per year.

There are 2 different methods of payment for Domestic Wheelie Bin Collection:

  1. Pay By Weight and
  2. Pay by Tag.

Under our pay by weight system you are only charged for the weight of material in your waste bin, there is no charge for the material in your recycling bin. Since its introduction in January 2005, pay by weight has resulted in increased recycling rates and a decrease in waste going to landfill. Pay by Weight is our most popular and successful system.

Each collection vehicle is fitted with weighing and identification equipment. Each wheelie bin is fitted with a unique microchip which is assigned to your account number. When the wheelie bin is lifted the system records the full weight as it is raised, and the empty weight as it is lowered. There is no manual calculation, only the nett weight of waste is recorded. The weighing system also reads the microchip fitted in your wheelie bin and the nett weight of waste disposed is allocated to your account. The equipment is certified by the Legal Metrology Service which is a division of the National Standards Authority of Ireland and will be subject to regular testing by the authority.

Pay by Tag

Mulleady's refuse tags
Tags are widely available in shops throughout the county.

Pay by Tag was introduced in County Longford in December 2008. If successful it will be extended to all other collection areas.

Under the Tag System each time you present your wheelie bin for collection you must attach a prepaid tag. Only the contents of the wheelie bin will be emptied. Tags can be purchased from a wide variety of outlets or at either of our Civic Amenity Sites. Customers must register in advance to avail of this service, to do this please contact us.
